An example of people obeying authority figures even though they may not want to is during a time of war when a village is being bombarded people will follow anyone who acts as though they should be trusted. The people will follow them even if they do not agree with what they are doing.
Military commanders do not have to be harsh to their troups because if they are nice their troops will listen to them with respect not fear.
I think it is very good for a military outfit to work together while they are together because if they do not nothing woulf really get done.
If a commander is unable to keep control over his or her troops during a war the troops would not do as was planned and end up ruining the whole thing.

An example of a modern day cannon is the Mark 45 gun. The gun is opperated by three people all below deck. they are the gun captain, panal operator, and ammunition loader. It is atomatic and non-sustained firing operations. The gun can be fired without any crew members inside the mount. The sustained fire is limited to the capacity of the automatic loader (20 pounds)

The Great Turkish Bombards were on display for 4 centuries before they were used in the Siege of Constantinople in 1807. the cannon hit a british ship with 2 700 pound cannonballs killing 60 sailors. the cannon killed 100 lives during the time it was used. In 1867 the cannon was given to Queen Victoria.

In the 1500s cannons were made in a variety of lengths and bore diameters. The general rule then was the longer the barrel, the longer the range. Some cannons that were made in this time had barrels that reached the length of 10ft, and would weigh up to 20,000 pounds. Large amounts of gunpoweder was needed to allow them to launch the large cannon balls several hundred feet.
One of the Cannons of this time was the Tsar cannon designed by Andrey Chokhov. It weighed 39312 Kg and had a length of 5.34 metres, a calibre of 890 mm, and an external diameter of 1200mm.
The cannon was made to defend the Kremlin in times of war but it was never used. It may have been used as a show piece of military right and engineering.
